We have a new age dawning in the political spheres of our Country, our State (NY), and our County (Steuben). The lead of the democrats in the November 08 elections was not shocking to me. They appealed to youth, to the plight of the working man, and the basic emotions of jealousy that class warfare mentality embodies. We have a chance to bring the Political process back to fairness, morality, and simplicity. What does the Republican party represent in this nation? What does it promise in its roles, relationships to the voting common man? How are we going to get back into the lead in coming elections?
I am a republican and proud of it because I have always felt that Conservatives in Politics are the moral right, and the compass of morality. Upholding the Right to Life and to Liberty its purest call. It also asks us to take more responsibility upon ourselves for how government money is used, and calls for lower taxes, less bureaucracy, and free enterprise supporting our schools, and healthcare systems with private funds, and not tax dollars.
The fact is Democrats preyed upon the fact that they are going to TAX the rich, and give to the "poor" - a very Robin Hood mentality that requires the taxpayer to buy into the social programs they promote. I don't believe that so many fell for the trap. It's a scam. It's a lie. They will undoubtedly pass on the costs to us taxpayers one way or another. Income taxes are not the only monies we give to the government. Also for every tax levied against commerce, small businesses, employers, and the wealthier segments of our population one more or two more employees are laid off, or not hired because of the economic impact on the employer by those higher taxes. What the heck?! I thought they were going to help the poor man, not cost him his job options... oh, that's right we like welfare if we are Democrats. It's ok for the poor man to squeek by on taxpayer's dollars.
Not for us republicans. It's not ok. Too much money is being used by the Democrats to bail out large financial contributors to their campaignes. They aren't going to stimulate the economy with the Pork and the frivelous expenditures in the Stimulus package they are shoving down America's throat. I feel so helpless to stop them. They will run us into deeper debt, and have no or little oversight on this, to keep the monies from being mis-appropriated, or abused by the wealthy elite companies, that have billions of dollars, or millions of dollars already. IT MAKES ME ANGRY. I hope that this blows up in their faces, I really do. But in the mean time what are we Republicans going to do, for when the damage is done? I am sure the economy is not going to recover in the near future. How do we cut the unnecessary spending in our Governments on a local level, a state level, a countrywide level? I believe we need to stamp out social programs that are government funded, starting with the festering scab of welfare, and SSI. If these programs continue to draw tax payer dollars, they need to do a lot more than send out stimulus checks.
Our paychecks are not getting fatter. Our oil prices are still abnormally high per price per barrel. What can we do to trim the fat?
Here's my suggestions:
a.) Eliminate unnecessary expenditures. This includes Aides, Secretaries, Hotel stays in rooms costing over $60.00 per night. Oh yeah, I want to see budgets kept, and receipts turned in for anyone drawing a government salary for serving in the legistlative or executive branches, for State, Feds, etc. We need accountability for our spending right now. No retirement fund for senate or congress seats. Term over, government paycheck ends, and it's back to work in the private sector for you.
b.) Lower or eliminate the taxes on Businesses who hire and retain employees on long term scales.
c.) Fix SSI, Social Security, Welfare. Limit who collects and how. Force those lazy sponges off their butts and into working for government. I say if they don't pay into it, they don't get anything out of it. I say that if you are too sick to work because you have an alcohol addiction then you need to be locked up in a rehab on your own dime, and not drawing my tax dollars into your addictions. If you don't contribute, you don't get paid. If you are over 65 but still able to work then why don't you? If you can write, or read, then we have a job for you.
Now I am not saying that we are leaving those who are severely disabled, sick, or aged out in the dust. But anyone between the ages of 16 - 65 would be evaluated, trained, and put to service of the state, rather than allowed to stay at home all day watching TV, getting fat, smoking and drinking on our tax dollars.
d.) Term limits on no more than two 4 year terms for any elected official. That's right no life long embedded politicians in the Senate, the legislature, or congress person, or governor.
e.) Get farmers to run for office, blue collar factory workers, and the common man or woman who knows what it means to survive off limited incomes. I make less than $30,000 a year and I know what it means to scrimp and save. If our government was managed by people who have respect for the power of the dollar, it would be a better country.
Too many of those in power are fat cats who make millions, and have no clue what it feels like to starve, to struggle to make ends meet. The original congress was paid the equivelant of $16500/year salary and after term was up they went home to farms, business at home, etc. They knew what service was. It was an honor and a huge responsibility for them to come to Washington to vote, to pass laws, and to serve as the Legislative branch. Now I see power grabbing, back stabbing, vicious lawyers and millionaires who know nothing about being a common taxpayer.
